SUMMARY

A Resolution authorizing an extension of the current Water and Sewer System Rates for all customers.

BUDGETARY CONSIDERATIONS

HISTORY, BACKGROUND and  DISCUSSION

The current rates went into effect on July 1, 2011, and are set to expire on June 30, 2016.  The rates are used to calculate customer charges for service and are based on an analysis of the water and sewer systems conducted by the Department of Public Works.  These rates apply to the City of Battle Creek, City of Springfield, Bedford Township, Emmett Township, Leroy Township, and Pennfield Township.

At the present time, a rate study is underway with our consultant; however, it is unlikely that it will be completed by the expiration of the current rates on June 30, 2016.  The City is currently in negotiations with the above municipalities.  It is anticipated that the new five-year rates will go into effect January 1, 2017.
