Resolved by the Commission of the City of Battle Creek:
That,
1. Public Act 523 of 2012 made comprehensive changes to Michigan Election Law.
2. The Act provides that cities wishing to change their election date to the even year general election may do so by Resolution.
3. The City of Battle Creek currently holds its regular election for City Commission at the November odd year election date and desires to change the date on which it holds its regular election for City Commission offices to the November even year election date.
4. It has been determined that changing from odd year to even year elections for City Commission as permitted by MCL 168.642a(4) would provide significant cost savings to the City and increase voter turnout.
5. The City Commission has conducted a public hearing on this resolution after having given notice of such public hearing in the manner required by MCL 168.642(7)(c).
and that pursuant to MCL 168.642a(4) and MCL 168.642, the City of Battle Creek hereby changes its regular election for City Commission offices schedule to the even year November general election.
The regular city commission election that would have been held in November, 2019 will be held in November, 2020. The terms of the City Commissioners elected in November, 2017 that would have otherwise expired in November, 2019 will be extended until November, 2020. There will not be a City Commission election in November, 2019.
The City Clerk shall immediately file a copy of this resolution with the Michigan Secretary of State as provided in MCL 168.642(7)(e).
