HISTORY, BACKGROUND and  DISCUSSION

At the March 15, 2005 City Commission meeting, a motion was made from the floor to appoint a Code of Ethics Review Subcommittee consisting of three City Commissioners to survey the Commission and hold public review of the Code of Ethics. The motion was carried unanimously and the committee has since met periodically requiring membership of at least three City Commissioners. On June 5, 2007, Resolution 161 was passed which expanded the scope of the work of the Committee to include the preparation of a Commission Orientation Handbook. The handbook is now traditionally updated by the City Attorney and the City Manager. The most recent appointment took place on December 17, 2013, by Resolution 34, wherein Mayor Dave Walters, Vice Mayor Deborah Owens, Commissioner Lynn Ward Gray and Commissioner Michael Sherzer were appointed to the City Commission Ethics Policy Review Committee.

On August 18, 2009, Resolution 193 was unanimously approved establishing a Meeting Rules committee. On December 17, 2013, Mayor David Walters, Commissioner Michael Sherzer and Commissioner Lynn Ward Gray were appointed to the City Commission Meeting Rules Committee pursuant to Resolution 33.

On March 4, 2014, Resolution 104 was unanimously approved combining the City Commission Ethics Committee and the City Commission Meeting Rules committee, into the City Commission Ethics and Meeting Rules Committee.
