With the demolition and rebuild of the Miller Physical Education Building on the northern section of Kellogg Community College’s campus, the KCC Foundation is seeking funding support to structurally enhance the northwest corner of the college's property in the area defined by the intersection of Roosevelt and North Avenues.
Over the past few years, much investment has been made in this four corner area including substantial renovations to the Annex apartment complex, Burger King, Habitat for Humanity Restore building and parking lot, and the addition of the Recovery Center and SnackWorks. All of these investments are transforming this section of the Battle Creek community; adding vitality, energy and beauty to the neighborhood. KCC and the KCC Foundation seek to partner with the Battle Creek Community Foundation, our site contractors and other donors to physically enhance the northwest corner of the college so that it provides an aesthetically pleasing, functional and safe gateway to KCC, the north-end neighborhood and downtown Battle Creek. The vision and concept design for this site, which can be referred to as a micro-park, includes a new KCC bannered entry sign, trees, plantings, benches, sculptures, and an extension of the Linear Park path to allow for walking, running, biking and skateboarding traffic. A B-Cycle station has also been proposed by the Battle Creek Community Foundation. Ample lighting, a "call" box and spatial plantings will be designed and installed to foster a safe environment.
KCC and the Foundation envision this space as a gateway, pathway and gathering spot for all individuals, students and families to enjoy. This grant will support the extension of the Linear Path and landscaping aspects of the project.
