A Resolution approving Brownfield Plan, Site No. 15 for the proposed redevelopment of an approximately 18,000 square-foot building located at 50 West Michigan Avenue into a rock climbing gym.

BATTLE CREEK, MICHIGAN - 1/7/2020

Resolved by the Commission of the City of Battle Creek:

 

The City of Battle Creek, in accordance with the Brownfield Redevelopment Financing Act, Public Act 381 of 1996 as amended, held a public hearing on December 17, 2019, on the Brownfield Plan, Site No. 15, for the proposed redevelopment of an approximately 18,000 square-foot building located at 50 West Michigan Avenue in Battle Creek.

 

After considering input from the public hearing, the City Commission approves the attached Brownfield Plan, Site No. 15, for the proposed redevelopment project at 50 West Michigan Avenue into a rock climbing gym.









I, Victoria Houser, City Clerk of the City of Battle Creek, hereby certify the above and foregoing is a true and correct copy of a Resolution adopted by the Battle Creek City Commission at a Regular meeting held on January 7, 2020.

SUMMARY 

A Resolution approving Brownfield Plan, Site No. 15 for the proposed redevelopment of an approximately 18,000 square-foot building located at 50 West Michigan Avenue into a rock climbing gym.


BUDGETARY CONSIDERATIONS
If approved, the Plan will include tax increment financing to cover eligible project costs identified in the Plan.

HISTORY, BACKGROUND and  DISCUSSION

This Plan will allow the Brownfield to reimburse 50 West Michigan Avenue, LLC for the costs of eligible environmental and non-environmental activities needed to safely redevelop one tax parcel at 50 W. Michigan Avenue into an 18,000 square-foot rock climbing gym that will include climbing walls for beginners to advanced climbers and space for other fitness activities. The Project will include lead and asbestos abatement, interior and exterior demolition activities, site preparation activities and environmental activities.

 

The Project is expected to commence in 2020 and be completed in 9 to 12 month. Total capital investment is estimated at approximately $4 million. The Project is expected to generate approximately five full-time and part-time jobs. The Brownfield Plan, if approved, provides for the use of tax incremental financing, to reimburse 50 West Michigan Avenue, LLC.
